SiC Paper Backup
Warning: Do not rely on this as your only backup. This is an experimental tool. It has not been tested on real printers or scanners across different devices and paper types. Data can be lost or may fail to restore. Always keep your original files and at least one proper digital backup.
SiC Paper Backup turns a file into printable pages and turns those pages back into the original file. It encodes data as a grid of black-and-white dots, exports a ready-to-print PDF, and restores files from a scanned PDF or images. Everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
What it's for
An extra, last-resort copy of small files you can't easily replace, such as project files, scores, lyrics, keys, or recovery codes. It complements normal backups; it never replaces them.
How it works
Independent rows: Each row carries its own number and checksum, so a damaged row doesn't ruin the rest.
Parity rows: One in every nine rows is a recovery row, so a single lost row per group can be rebuilt.
Corner markers: They help correct rotation, scale, and warping in the scan.
Adjustable density: Larger dots are more reliable, while smaller dots fit more data per page.
Limits
- Paper holds little data. At the default settings, each page holds about 46 KB.
- Results depend on your printer, toner or ink, paper, and scanner. Fading, stains, folds, and low-quality scans can make a page unreadable.
- Recovery only works up to a point. If too many rows are damaged, the file cannot be restored.
Before you trust any backup made with this tool
Print a test page, scan it, restore it, and confirm that the restored file is identical to the original. Repeat the test whenever you change your printer, scanner, paper, or settings. A backup you haven't restored is not a backup.
